St Peter’s Church in Melaka starts job-matching project using Facebook

JUNE 5, 2020: St Peter’s Church in Melaka has started a community service – job-matching. This announcement was made on the parish Facebook page just two hours ago (about 10am today) and already three people have put up posts saying there are vacancies in the city.

The post on the St Peter’s Church Manpower project reads: “Many people are jobless due to the COVID 19, global pandemic. We here at St Peter’s Church would like to create a platform for those who are in need of jobs. If there are companies, businesses out there able to offer employment, kindly contact our parish secretary Lyn at 062822951 and we will gladly post job vacancies at our Parish Facebook.”

The number of people who are going to be without jobs are expected to increase as businesses are finding it hard to cope with the Movement Control Order imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A recent study says job losses in Malaysia increased by 42 per cent year-on-year for this first quarter (Q1 2020). The situation is expected to get worse “with job losses increasing by 50 per cent to 200 per cent year-on-year for each subsequent quarter in 2020”, according to the study by the Social Security Organisation’s (Socso) Employment Insurance System.
