Accident survivor sadly misses Fr John Gnanapiragasam

Ashley John

DEC 4, 2021: Ashley Faustina John lapsed into a coma and was fighting for dear life after a car knocked her down in Klang in 2005. It was during this period that the late Rev Fr John Gnanapiragasam visited her in the hospital and prayed over her. She was only seven at that time.

“According to my mother he came to the hospital to bless and pray for me when I was on a life support machine. I was in coma for two weeks after I was involved in a hit-and-run accident,” said Ashley John, now 23.

She said Fr Gnanapiragasam always welcomed her and her family with so much love. She and her family members are parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Klang and Fr John was the parish priest then.

“Mummy said I was so special to Father John. I am truly grateful for all the blessings and prayers he showered upon me and my family,” said Ashley John. “Fr John was truly a very loving father and priest. He was always so welcoming. His memories will live forever in our hearts and we would miss him dearly.”

Fr Gnanapiragasam died on Nov 19, just 11 days short of his 77th birthday. He was ordained as a priest at the age of 27 in 1971 and served for 48 years in several parishes in Kuala Lumpur, Klang, Seremban and Cameron Highlands.

Fr Gnanapiragasam, had a heart attack at his family home in Jalan Labu Lama, Seremban. The funeral mass was held at the Church of The Visitation before the burial at the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Jalan Bukit in Kajang.
