Hearing impaired artist offers his work as a blessing to all on Palm Sunday

MARCH 28, 2021: Catholic artist Lim posted on his Facebook page a drawing he did to commemorate Palm Sunday – Jesus entering Jerusalem as the crowd waves palm leaves welcoming Him. The strokes are bold and Jesus is the central figure and the only one in colour. This along with the subtle fabric design on some of the garments worn by the people give this sketch a Malaysian batik feel. That is Lim’s area of specialisation – batik painting.

Lim, a Malaysian who is now living in Ho Chi Minh City, was born deaf and therefore unable to hear or speak. He has, however, an incredible talent and one that had not gone unrecognised. His batik paintings have won him third placing prizes at the International Abilympics Competition for three years – 1995 in Perth, 2003 in New Delhi and 2007 in Tokyo. This is an Olympic of abilities which was first held in 1981.

He was at one time the Art Director at Lim Kok Wing University in Kuala Lumpur and for many years sold his work to corporate and private clients. They include Bank Negara Malaysia and an unnamed buyer from Spain who bought 6,000 pieces of his batik work. For details, please go to his website and his FB page.
