RIP Rev Fr Peter Bretaudeau

SEPT 2, 2021: He was the son of a mechanic who wanted to be a priest when he was just 10. He joined the Foreign Missions of Paris (MEP — Missions Etrangeres de Paris) and was ordained as a priest in 1956 at the age of 26. The following year he was sent to Malaya in October 1957 – just two months after the country got her independence.

Rev Fr Peter Bretaudeau remained in this young country for 57 years and in 2014 he returned to France. In those 57 years, he had served in 10 parishes in the KL Archdiocese and has seen the number of parishes and parishioners grow in terms of numbers and devotion to God. One of them was a little boy named Julian Leow who went on to become the Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur.

He is remembered for his ability to speak Tamil fluently and for his ability to bring souls to the Lord, especially Tamil-speaking people.
